General Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing crashes, lockups, or launching issues while playing one of our games, follow the steps below to try and resolve the issue. These steps may also help solve many other types of problems.

Crashing and connection issues on console (TABS)

For crashes that occur in TABS on console, check the troubleshooting steps in the following article. The guide also includes steps you can try if you are having problems joining multiplayer games on Xbox.

Check the system requirements

Before attempting the troubleshooting below, make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements. You can see the system requirements on the Steam Store page for each game:

Verify the installation of your game files 

Steam
Right-click on the game in your Library > Select Properties > Select the tab Local files > Verify integrity of game files

Epic Games Launcher
Navigate to the game in your Library and click on the three dots > Click Verify in the drop-down navigation

Microsoft Store or the Xbox app for Windows
Open the Xbox app and find the game in your Library > click on the three dots and select Manage > Select the Files tab and then Verify and repair

You can also reinstall the game to make sure that your game files aren’t corrupted, you can read more here.

Restart your computer

A simple restart can often solve many different types of issues.

Make sure the game launcher you are using is updated

Steam
Launch Steam > Click on “Steam” in the top-left corner > Check for Steam Client Updates…

Epic Games Launcher
Restart the launcher to make sure the latest update is installed, you can read more here

Microsoft Store
Launch Microsoft Store > Click on the three dots in the top-right corner > Downloads and updates > Click Get updates near the top-right corner

Update your graphics drivers

It's important to keep your graphics drivers up-to-date since outdated drivers can affect performance or lead to other issues.

For most graphics cards you can download and install the latest drivers from NVIDIA or AMD. On Mac the latest drivers are installed along with macOS updates.

If you are not sure what kind of graphics card you have or which drivers you should download, you can read this guide on how to identify your graphics card and download drivers.

Force DirectX (Steam only)

Force DirectX 11 on launch (for issues with TABS and TABG):

  1. Right-click on the game in your Steam Library

  2. Select Properties and go to the General tab

  3. In the box under Launch Options, type “-force-d3d11” (without the quotes)

  4. Close the Properties window

Force DirectX 9 on launch (for issues with Stick Fight and Clustertruck):

  1. Right-click on the game in your Steam Library

  2. Select Properties and go to the General tab

  3. In the box under Launch Options, type “-force-d3d9” (without the quotes)

  4. Close the Properties window

Antivirus software issues 

Antivirus software can sometimes incorrectly identify the game or your game launcher as a threat and then quarantine and remove game files, or prevent the game launcher from downloading and saving game data.

To stop this from happening, add exceptions for the game and your game launcher in the antivirus software. 

You can also try to temporarily disable your antivirus software (not needed if you only use Windows Defender) to troubleshoot and make sure it’s not preventing the game from running properly.

Administrator privileges (Windows only)

Running software as an administrator gives it extra permissions and can fix several odd problems.

Run the game as an administrator:

  1. Locate the game installation folder

  2. Right-click on the game executable (the application) and select Properties

  3. Select the Compatibility tab

  4. Check “Run this program as administrator” and click OK

Run your game launcher as an administrator (only applies to Steam and Epic Games Launcher):

  1. Go to Steam’s / the Epic Games Launcher’s installation folder (see default location below)

  2. Right-click on Steam.exe or EpicGamesLauncher.exe and select Properties

  3. Select the Compatibility tab

  4. Check “Run this program as administrator” and click OK

Default install location for Steam and Epic Games:

Steam default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
Epic Games default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64\

Issues with Citrix Workspace

Citrix Workspace is a digital workspace software platform and this program causes issues with Unity and can cause the game to crash. To solve this issue, please uninstall Citrix completely.

Install the latest Windows Update

  1. Open Windows Settings (you can do so by clicking the Start button in the taskbar and then the cogwheel icon)

  2. Go to Update & Security and select the Windows Update tab to the left

  3. Click Check for updates

Install the latest macOS update

To download macOS software updates, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Software Update.

Controllers, joysticks and other devices

Some devices can cause various issues with the game. If you have any controllers or other peripherals (joystick, racing wheel, foot pedals etc.) plugged in or connected wirelessly while playing, please try to unplug/disconnect them and start the game with only mouse & keyboard.

Make sure your computer is using the dedicated GPU

Many laptops have more than one graphics card: an integrated and a dedicated one. The dedicated one is usually stronger and more suited for demanding tasks such as gaming. If your laptop has a power saving mode, it will most likely switch to the integrated GPU to preserve battery power.

To check if you have more than one GPU, open the Device Manager in Windows. Your GPU(s) will be shown under “Display adapters”. If there is only one option that says “Intel HD Graphics”, you only have an integrated GPU.

To switch to your dedicated GPU, follow this guide.

RAM

If you have low memory (RAM), it's important that you are not running other programs in the background while playing. For example, Chrome is a heavy memory user.

Some software will automatically run at startup in Windows by default, which can use up a lot of RAM. This can be disabled in most software by going to their settings and disabling “Automatically start when logging into Windows” or something similar. Other software can be disabled in Windows itself; please read more here.

In macOS, you can find similar settings under System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items.

Performance issues

If you are experiencing low FPS or stutters, you can follow Steam's troubleshooting guides for game performance issues, available here and here (these steps are helpful even if you are using a different game launcher than Steam). A good first step is to make sure your graphics drivers are updated. Also check that your computer is using the dedicated GPU, more info here.

For performance issues in TABS, it may help to lower some of the graphics options in the game. Start the game and open Settings, in the Video tab you can for example turn off anti-aliasing, as well as lowering shadow and physics quality. Please note that due to the physics simulations in the game, you may experience FPS drops in large battles with many units.

My game is stuck in the taskbar

For this issue, you can try the following:

  • When you have started the game and it appears to be running in the background, first click on the game in the taskbar, then press ALT+ENTER

  • Press the Windows key and P at the same time, on the panel that appears to the right, click “PC screen only”

  • Make sure that your graphics drivers are updated

  • Install the latest Windows/macOS update

  • Add an exception for the game with your antivirus

You can also try to temporarily lower the resolution in Windows:

  1. Open Windows Settings > System > Display

  2. Under Display resolution, lower the resolution

  3. Launch the game

  4. If the game launches properly, you can close it and change the resolution back

Clean install of the game (TABS - Steam/Epic Games users)

Custom content from the workshop can sometimes cause issues with the game, like crashes or getting stuck on a loading screen. Having a very large amount of custom content can also be an issue for some users. Doing a clean install of the game can help.

  1. Log into https://mod.io/g/tabs, you can log in directly with your Steam/Epic Games account. In the panel to the left, select "My collection" and unsubscribe from everything in the list by clicking the red X.

  2. If you have made any custom units or other creations in the game that you would like to keep, then you should back up those creations before continuing with step 3. If there are no creations that you want to save, you can jump to step 3.

    • STEAM: In order to back up your custom content, right-click on TABS in your Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files > TotallyAccurateBattleSimulator_Data > CustomContent. Make a copy of the "CustomContent" folder and put it on your desktop for example. We will put this folder back later.

    • EPIC GAMES: In order to back up your custom content, right-click on TABS in your Epic Games Library > Manage > In the “Installation” section, click on the small folder icon to open the Install Location > TotallyAccurateBattleSimulator_Data > CustomContent. Make a copy of the “CustomContent” folder and put it on your desktop for example. We will put this folder back later.

  3. Uninstall the game via the Steam client/Epic Games launcher, then make sure these folders are gone:

    • STEAM game installation folder (default location):
      C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Totally Accurate Battle Simulator

    • EPIC GAMES game installation folder (default location):
      C:\Program Files\Epic Games Launcher\TABS

    • And the TABS folder in AppData:
      C:\Users\your username\AppData\LocalLow\Landfall Games\Totally Accurate Battle Simulator

  4. Install the game via Steam/Epic again. Then start the game and see if it works properly. After you’ve made sure the game works and if you followed step 2, you can now put back your “CustomContent” folder in the same location.

    If you start to have issues again after putting back the “CustomContent” folder, there is likely a specific item causing issues or if you have a very large amount of custom content, deleting some may help.

Where are the game recordings saved on my computer?

If you save them after watching them in-game - they will be saved to your desktop.

You can also press F3 while the game is running to open a folder with your recordings, the default location is:

C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Temp\rec

Can you recover the camera footage if everyone dies?

If everyone dies in the old world, you can still find the camera in the same spot where you dropped it the next time you go down. You can also press F3 while the game is running to open a folder with your recordings.

Can I change the language in the game?

You can change language through Steam: Right-click on Content Warning in your Steam Library > Properties > In the General tab, there is an option to change the language.

Am I allowed to stream the game?

Yes, you are allowed to record and stream the game, monetized or otherwise!

Where do I report bugs?

Screenshots, videos, steps to reproduce and player logs are always helpful! The player log contains information on your latest game session which can help us track down bugs. Recreate the bug you’re experiencing in the game before getting the log here:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard

  2. Type appdata into the prompt that appears

  3. Then navigate to LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning> locate the file called “Player” and send it to support@landfall.se

My game crashes on startup or during gameplay

If the game stops responding and crashes back to the desktop, please check out our troubleshooting guide at https://landfall.se/troubleshooting for potential solutions.

Some players have reported that Overwolf can cause crashes in the game - if you have it installed make sure it’s not running while playing Content Warning.

For crashes on startup it often helps to remove save files and game recordings, and if the problem persists after that, then run the game as an administrator.

Save files and game recordings can be found here:

  • C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning\Saves

  • C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Temp\rec

Steps on how to run the game as an administrator:

  1. Right-click on Content Warning in your Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files

  2. Right-click on “Content Warning” and select Properties

  3. Select the Compatibility tab

  4. Check “Run this program as administrator” and click OK

My antivirus is reacting to the game

This happens often with new games, it's a false positive. Make sure to make an exception for the game with your antivirus and then verify your game files in Steam.

Recordings fail to extract or get stuck on extracting

If recordings fail to extract when you play, it would be very helpful if you could send us your player log!

Right now we're looking to get player logs from all players in the same session, or from players that are able to recreate the bug in solo mode.

If you would like to help by sending us logs, follow the steps below.

  1. First recreate the bug where the extraction fails in the game, all players in the lobby should then get the player log immediately after the bug has occurred

  2. Get the log here: Press the Windows key + R and type appdata into the prompt that appears. Then navigate to LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning > locate the file called “Player”

  3. One player should collect logs from everyone in the session and send them in an email to support@landfall.se

If you can also include a short description of the game session (such as which day the extraction failed and if anything of note happened on that day, or if you died) it'll help us a lot when going through the logs!

Stuck on hosting, unable to join/host games, disconnection issues

Here are some steps you can try that have helped fix the issue for other players:

  • Launch the game directly from your Steam Library (instead of using a shortcut for example)

  • Restarting the game will sometimes help

  • Run the game as administrator, you can find steps on how to do so in our troubleshooting guide here https://landfall.se/troubleshooting

  • Exclude the game in your antivirus

  • Verify your game files in Steam: Right-click on Content Warning in your Steam Library > Properties > Installed files > Verify integrity of game files

  • If you have modded the game, try removing all mods and reinstall the game

  • Make sure you have a stable internet connection

  • Some players have been able to solve the issues by playing with a VPN

  • Try shutting down any other programs while playing the game, it’s possible that something is interfering with the game in some way

It can also help to remove your save files and game recordings, they are located here:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard

  2. Type appdata into the prompt that appears

    • Then navigate to LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning\Saves for the save files

    • Or to Local\Temp\rec for the game recordings

My game is pink!

This seems to happen mainly on computers that don't meet the minimum system requirements for the game. You can try updating your graphics drivers and also check if your computer has more than one GPU and if so, make sure it's using the dedicated GPU for the game (detailed steps in our troubleshooting guide).

The game freezes for a few seconds when I stop recording

For this issue it usually helps to add exclusions in your antivirus for the game installation folder (the entire folder, not just the game itself) and the folder where the game recordings are saved.

The default antivirus in Windows is Windows Security you can follow these steps to add an exclusion.

The default locations are:

  • Game installation folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Content Warning

  • Game recordings:
    C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Temp\rec

If you have trouble finding the folder with the game recordings, you can start the game and film a bit with the camera, then press F3 (while the game is still running) and it will open the folder with your recordings. Check the location of that folder and exclude it in your antivirus.

Some players have also mentioned that FACEIT Anti-Cheat can cause this issue in the game, if you have it installed you can check to see if can be disabled while playing Content Warning.

My game is stuck in a minimized/tiny window

Resetting the resolution in the Registry usually helps with this:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard

  2. Type regedit into the prompt that appears and click OK

  3. In the panel to the left, navigate to this folder: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Landfall Games\Content Warning

  4. Delete all settings starting with “Screenmanager”

I can't move the camera while in-game

Check the in-game settings and make sure the mouse sensitivity hasn’t been set to 0 (this can happen sometimes due to a bug).

Troubleshooting for audio and microphone issues

If you have no sound in the game, can’t hear others or be heard, or experience other audio related issues, you can troubleshoot the issue with the steps below.

  • Check the in-game audio settings and make sure the Master, SFX and Voice volume sliders haven't been set to 0 (this can happen sometimes due to a bug). Also try to readjust the volume sliders (increase or lower the volume), this can fix things sometimes.

  • Some mods can cause audio bugs in the game. If you have any mods installed, try removing them fully and reinstall the game.

  • A program called Voicemod has caused issues for some players. If you have it on your computer, you can try to uninstall it.

  • If you have a Razer headset, there's a setting on the microphone which suppresses background noise. Some players have mentioned that switching this off using the Razer app 'Synapse' has helped.

  • Make sure the sound hasn't been muted in Windows: Right-click on the Speaker icon in the Windows Taskbar > Open Volume Mixer > Once the game is running, you can adjust its volume in the Volume Mixer​.

  • Try changing the output device in Windows (for example use headphones or the monitor instead of the speakers) to make sure there are no issues with the device. Simply changing to a different output device and then changing back can sometimes help as well.

  • Update Windows: Open Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates​.

  • Run the game as an administrator (you can find steps on how to do so in our troubleshooting guide here).

  • Exclude the game in your antivirus.

Deleting save files and game recordings can also help solve various issues, you can find them here:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard

  2. Type appdata into the prompt that appears

    • Then navigate to LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning\Saves for the save files

    • Or to Local\Temp\rec for the game recordings

My voice is low in recordings

  • Other players have solved this by turning off “Spatial Sound” in Windows (Open Windows Settings > System > Sound > Select your playback device under Output devices > Select Device Properties and turn off spatial sound).

  • For others it has worked to increase your microphone volume in Steam (Open Steam Settings > Voice > Increase the input volume).

I lost my MetaCoins / Someone added a lot of MetaCoins to my account

We recommend playing the game as intended and to not inflate your MetaCoins, but if an issue causes your MC to disappear you can follow the steps below to restore your progress. These steps also help if you want to remove MC from your account.

  1. Press Windows key + R and type appdata into the prompt that appears

  2. Navigate to LocalLow\Landfall Games\Content Warning\Saves

  3. Right-click on the metaData file > Open with > Notepad

  4. Change the MetaCoins value to the number you want and save the file

Troubleshooting on console

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator

Crashes

Frequent crashes may occur on console if you have a lot of custom content (both units, battles and maps that you’ve created yourself and content subscribed to in the workshop). It may help to remove some of your custom content.

If the game is crashing on startup or if you are unable to unsubscribe to workshop items in-game, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://mod.io/g/tabs and sign in using your Xbox/PlayStation account. Nintendo players should log in using the email that was entered in-game the first time you opened the workshop.

  2. In the panel to the left, click on My Collection. Here you can see your in-game subscriptions. Unsubscribe from everything by clicking the red X.

  3. Start the game to see if it works better.

  4. If the crashes persist, reinstall the game. (On Xbox, there will be a screen where you can select which components to remove - select to remove everything).

    • Please note that uninstalling the game will remove units, battles and maps that you’ve created yourself. If you can, upload your content to the in-game workshop first to save it online (you can then re-download everything when you install the game again).

On Xbox, the workshop is also shared with PC players. PC players often upload content that requires community-made mods in order to work. It is highly recommended not to download anything that looks like it might require mods on console (anything that you can’t create in the official unit creator like animal units or vehicles for example), as these will often cause problems such as crashes and will not work on console.

Connection issues on Xbox

To play multiplayer with a friend, both players require an Xbox Game Pass Core/Ultimate subscription.

If you are having problems hosting or joining multiplayer games, your internet connection may have a strict or moderate NAT. Main Game FAQ

Where can I get the game?

TABS is available for purchase on Steam, Epic Games, Microsoft Store, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

See below where you can find the game depending on your platform:

Is the game coming to mobile?

XD is currently working on a mobile port for TABS! You can follow the development on their Twitter or join their Discord server for more info.

Are there any differences between TABS on PC and on console?

Yes. On Xbox and PlayStation there are small differences in graphics in order to meet optimization requirements. 

There is also a cap on how many units you can place, which is 30 units per side for Xbox and PlayStation. Multiplayer does not support cross-play between platforms (however, Xbox and Microsoft Store players can play private matches together).

PlayStation and Switch players can only see workshop content from other players on the same platform.

Is there support for cross-platform play in multiplayer?

It's not possible for Steam, Epic Games, Xbox and Nintendo players to invite each other to play private matches (you need to be on the same platform to play).

However, Xbox and Microsoft Store players can play private matches together.

Can I play TABS on Linux?

We have no current plans to add official Linux support, but on Steam you can play the game through Proton.

Can you add support for 32-bit operating systems?

Most computers running with 32-bit operating systems don't meet the minimum system requirements for TABS. Therefore, we do not plan to add support for these systems.

How do I get a refund?

Does the game have support for Remote Play Together on Steam?

Yes! With Remote Play Together, one player owns and runs the game, and then they can invite a friend for local multiplayer.

You can follow these steps to play:

  1. After you've started the game, bring up the Steam overlay (shift+tab), right-click on your friend's username in the friend’s list, and select Remote Play Together.

  2. Once your friend accepts the invite, they will be in-game with you.

  3. Select Multiplayer in the main menu and then Local. One player needs to play with a mouse & keyboard and the other with a controller so that both players are recognized. Press any button on the keyboard to join as Player 1. The other player needs to press any button on their controller so that they join as Player 2.

  4. Start the battle.

How to use custom units in Landfall campaigns?

On PC, you can use custom units in Landfall campaigns by going to the in-game Settings > Gameplay > Turn on “unlock all units in campaign levels”.

On console it’s not possible to use custom units in Landfall campaigns (but you can use them in the sandbox and in custom campaigns). This is because some achievements would be too easy to unlock when using custom units.

When I enter a battle I can only place Clubbers or it says “None selected” at the bottom of the screen

This is the radial interface which is intended for controllers. If you are playing with mouse and keyboard, go to the Main menu > Settings > Gameplay > User Interface Mode > Change it to “traditional”.

I see this error message when starting the game: Application load error 3:0000065432

Antivirus software sometimes wrongly marks TABS as a virus, which can result in this error message. This can usually be solved by adding an exception for the game with your antivirus. Read more here.

I see this message in the game “The selected item contains one or more unsupported props, colors, weapons or abilities"

The reason this message appears is because some content in the workshop uses old props, colors, weapons or abilities that were removed after Early Access due to stability issues (see a complete list of these items here) - content that uses these outdated assets is being flagged which causes the message to appear.

You can turn off the message by going to Settings > Gameplay > Validate Custom Content > Set to Off, but it also means a risk that certain content will not work properly. This option is not available on consoles due to stability issues.

Another solution is to download an editable version of the mod causing problems (instead of subscribing to it), edit the units and re-save them, this should make sure all units are up-to-date. If you are the creator of the mod you can update your units and re-upload the mod to the workshop.

I can’t see my units in the Custom Content menu / Units are duplicating

This issue usually happens if you download or subscribe to a unit in the workshop that needs community-made mods in order to work. If you don't have the necessary mods, your custom content might get bugged.

If you are playing on PC, you can follow the steps in this guide to solve the issue.

On console, unsubscribe from everything in the workshop and reinstall the game (keep in mind that all your custom creations will be removed when the game is uninstalled, if possible upload them to the workshop first so that they are saved online).

Will my custom content remain if I uninstall the game or switch to a different computer?

PC

On Epic Games, the game installation folder is deleted when you uninstall the game and that also means your custom content is removed in the process. See below how to back up your creations.

On Steam and Microsoft Store, your custom content will remain even if you uninstall the game.

If you reinstall the game on a different hard drive, you will need to manually transfer your content between the hard drives (Steam only).

If you reinstall the operating system or the game launcher, or switch to a different computer, you will also need to transfer your custom content manually - otherwise it will be lost.

The easiest way to back up your content or transfer it between devices is to upload it to the in-game workshop and then download it again later as an editable copy. You can also transfer the game files manually, see steps at the bottom of this article.

Console

Your custom content will be removed if the game is uninstalled. Upload your units and other content to the in-game workshop if you want to save them online and download them again later as an editable copy.

What are the bug options?

Bug Notes:

  • Added bug where players can access hidden developer tools such as force push, unit grab, spawn projectiles and gravity modulation.

  • Added a bug which causes fireworks to be too big and too strong.

  • Added a bug which makes it impossible for units to die.

  • Added bug where range units attack speed is too high.

  • Added bug where balloons weigh too much.

  • Added bug where units would become too big.

  • Added bug causing units to become too small.

How do I find the bug options?

Once you’ve downloaded the DLC, start the game and go to Settings; there will be a new tab called [DLC] Bugs.

What are the controls for the debug tools on PC?

Use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to switch between tools. Right-click to use the tools.

How to download factions or single units?

From the main menu, select Workshop and then Browse. From here you can use the icons at the top to look for Battles, Campaigns, Units, Factions or Maps. You can use the filters to sort by popularity, rating and so on.

Once you find something you’re interested in, click on it and then click the bell icon to install and subscribe. You can also click the cloud icon to download an editable copy to your Custom Content, which will allow you to edit the item you downloaded.

How to use a unit that you’ve created or subscribed to in the workshop?

Units must be added to a faction before you can use them in battles. Go to the Factions tab in Custom Content and then add the unit to a new or existing faction. Select the Downloaded tab to see your workshop subscriptions.

How to use a faction that you’ve created or subscribed to in the workshop?

To use a faction that you’ve downloaded from the workshop or that you’ve created yourself, go into a battle and click on the plus sign near the bottom. This will open the “More factions” tab where you can add custom factions to the bar.

If you are using the radial interface or are playing on console, go into a battle and open the wheel where you select factions, here you should see an option to edit factions. Select the plus sign to add custom factions to the wheel.

To use custom factions in campaigns, go to Settings > Gameplay > Unlock all units in campaign levels > Make sure it’s turned on. Keep in mind that it’s not possible to use custom factions in Landfall campaigns on console.

How to play campaigns and battles that you’ve subscribed to?

To play a campaign you’ve subscribed to, select Campaign from the main menu and then select the Downloaded tab.

To play a battle you’ve subscribed to, go to Custom Content from the main menu, select the Battles tab at the top and then the Downloaded tab.

How to upload your custom content to the in-game workshop?

Method 1:

You can upload your units to the workshop by going into Custom Content and selecting the unit (or battle/campaign/faction) you want to upload, and next to the Edit and Rename buttons, there is an Upload button.

Then you are given a choice of uploading it as a new unit or to update an uploaded one.

Method 2:

Go into the Workshop and select Upload. Select Upload New or Update Existing, and then find the battle, campaign, unit or faction that you want to upload/update.

How to change the image on your uploaded content?

Log into https://mod.io/g/tabs with the mod.io account that is used in the game, from here you will be able to change the image on your custom content.

You can log in using your Steam, Xbox or Epic Games account. If you’re on Nintendo Switch, sign in with the email that you entered in-game the first time you opened the workshop.

How to use custom units in Landfall campaigns?

On PC, you can use custom units in Landfall campaigns by going to the in-game Settings > Gameplay > Turn on “unlock all units in campaign levels”.

On console it’s not possible to use custom units in Landfall campaigns (but you can use them in the sandbox and in custom campaigns). This is because some achievements would be too easy to unlock when using custom units.

Will my custom content remain if I uninstall the game or switch to a different computer?

PC

On Epic Games, the game installation folder is deleted when you uninstall the game and that also means your custom content is removed in the process. See below how to back up your creations.

On Steam and Microsoft Store, your custom content will remain even if you uninstall the game.

If you reinstall the game on a different hard drive, you will need to manually transfer your content between the hard drives (Steam only).

If you reinstall the operating system or the game launcher, or switch to a different computer, you will also need to transfer your custom content manually - otherwise it will be lost.

Transferring custom content:

You can upload your creations to the in-game workshop to save them online and then download them again later as an editable copy.

You can also transfer the local files:

1. Locate the “CustomContent" folder

  • STEAM: Right-click on TABS in your Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files > TotallyAccurateBattleSimulator_Data > CustomContent

  • EPIC GAMES: Right-click on TABS in your Epic Games Library > Manage > In the “Installation” section, click on the small folder icon to open the Install Location > TotallyAccurateBattleSimulator_Data > CustomContent

  • MICROSOFT STORE: C:\Users\your username\AppData\LocalLow\Landfall Games\Totally Accurate Battle Simulator\CustomContent

2. Transfer the CustomContent folder by copying it to the new location (e.g. other hard drive or new computer). If you’re on Microsoft Store, transferring the CustomContent folder between hard drives is not necessary.

Console

Your custom content will be removed if the game is uninstalled. Upload your units and other content to the in-game workshop if you want to save them and download them again later as an editable copy.

What are the controls?

P: Test map

Use W, A, S, D, Control and Space to move the camera. 

Use 1, 2, 3 and 4 to switch between Place, Utility, Sculpt and Mayhem.

Press B to see all props and decorations. From this screen you can also access tools such as triggers and visual effects.

When holding an object, press V to adjust the height of the object.

When holding an object, hold Shift and then press Q or E to resize the object.

How to use triggers, repeaters and sequencers?

  • Triggers: Trigger visual effects when units walk over them.

  • Repeater: Use it to repeat visual effects on a predetermined timer.

  • Sequencer: Use it to trigger a visual effect after a certain amount of time.

Press B and go to the “Tools” tab at the top. Under the Trigger category, select either the trigger, repeater or sequencer.

Before placing the trigger you can press E and Q to rotate. Rotating a repeater or sequencer will change the timer. Hold Shift and then press E or Q to make it bigger or smaller.

Select a trigger from the Props and Decorations menu. Place the trigger where you want it on your map, then press RMB to deselect. Hover over the trigger with the mouse pointer and press R. Click on the trigger first and then click on a visual effect (or a dispenser/spawner) that you’ve placed on the map to connect them.

Once the visual effect is connected to the trigger, the effect will either repeat in intervals (repeater), trigger after a certain amount of time (sequencer) or trigger when units walk over it (trigger).

How to use dispensers and spawners?

Dispensers and spawners need to be connected to a trigger. See above on how to use triggers.

How to create a battle using a custom map?

First create and save your map using the map creator. Then from the main menu, go to Custom Content > Maps > Select a map and then “Play”.

Place the units you want in your battle and then click on the cog wheel icon in the top-left corner to save the battle. From here you can also edit the team line.

How to edit the team line?

The team line can’t be edited in map creator mode, but you can edit it once you create a battle using your map. See above on how to create a battle using a custom map.

There are no current plans of making a Linux version of Stick Fight.

Is there a single-player mode or bots in the game?

There is no single-player in Stick Fight and no bots.

Do I need a PS Plus subscription on Playstation?

You can play local co-op without Playstation Plus, but you will need a subscription in order to play online multiplayer.

PC Troubleshooting

I am unable to join a game/I only get a circle with a cross when I join Quick Match.

The issue is most likely due to either your internet connection or your firewall, or the person you're playing with. Check your connection, disable your firewall and restart your computer and the game before you try to re-enter Quick Match.

You can also try to verify your game files on Steam: Right-click on Stick Fight in your Steam Library > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of game files.

My stick dude/My friend’s stick dude doesn’t move!

This is also most likely due to the firewall - please try to disable it, restart the game and Steam.

My controller spawns two stick dudes! 

Plug in all controllers before starting the game, if you use a wireless one, connect it to your PC before starting the game. This isn't really a bug with the game, but with Windows assigning all of them as the same controller (controller 1). After connecting them and booting the game, press the A button in sequence (so not all at once) and it should work fine - if not, let us know!

I see this error message in the game: No connection to host could be made, please check firewall

I'm getting Steam not initialized when starting the game

You can try to restart your computer and then run Steam as an administrator by following the steps below.

  1. Go to Steam’s installation folder (default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam)

  2. Right-click on Steam.exe and select Properties

  3. Select the Compatibility tab

  4. Check “Run this program as administrator” and click OK

  5. Launch the game from your Steam Library

Why did you make a battle royale game?!

TABG started out as an April Fools joke, we’ve done one every year since 2016. We've previously combined one of our games with another genre or game. The first year we made Supertruck, a mix between the game Superhot and Clustertruck. Then we made TABZ which is a mix between TABS and DAY-Z. We’ve spent an enormous amount of lunch breaks and nights playing battle royale games, this is an homage to a genre we love!

When we released TABG as an April Fools joke in 2018 it wasn’t initially meant to be updated, but when it gained a big following in the first week we decided to update it anyways. We completely overhauled the game later on and released it as Free To Play in 2021.

Why are you no longer updating the game?

Is there going to be a Mac/console version of the game?

There are no current plans to release the game on macOS or consoles.

What are Founders?

Founders are players that paid for the game or got it for free before the free-to-play release on April 1st, 2021. Founders received these rewards when the game went F2P:

  • Kept all the cosmetics released before the F2P release

  • The Tracksuit, which enables you to trigger the TABG Hardbass song “Beton i Doski”

  • 1,000 Money Coins (only if you paid for the game)

If I purchase a key to the game now, will I receive the Founder pack?

No, only players that got the game before the free-to-play release on April 1st, 2021 are eligible to receive the Founder pack.

Inverted mouse?

You can go to Options and change the sensitivity sliders to negative numbers.

I previously purchased cosmetics that are no longer available on my account

Verifying your game files usually solves this problem: Right-click on TABG in your Steam Library > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of game files.

You can also try launching the game directly from your Steam Library (instead of using a shortcut) and make sure Steam is running while playing the game.

If the issue persists after that, send an email to support@landfall.se and include a link to your Steam profile (or your Steam ID number).

The game is stuck in a minimized window

Resetting your resolution in the Registry Editor usually helps with this issue:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard

  2. Type regedit into the prompt that appears and click OK

  3. In the panel to the left, navigate to this folder: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Landfall Games\Totally Accurate Battlegrounds

  4. Delete all settings starting with “Screenmanager”

Unity authorization error

This error seems to happen when the time/date on your computer is off or is in the wrong timezone. Go to Windows Settings > Date & time > Turn on "Set time automatically".

Easy Anti-Cheat not installed

Right-click on TABG in your Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files > Open the "EasyAntiCheat" folder > Right-click on "EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup" and select "Run as administrator", then choose "Install".

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds Dedicated Server Guide

1. Go to your Steam Library and in the panel to the left, select Tools in the dropdown menu. Find “Totally Accurate Battlegrounds Dedicated Server” in the list and click to install.

2. Right-click on “Totally Accurate Battlegrounds Dedicated Server” in your Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files. To change the server settings, open the “game_settings.txt” file.

3. The most important settings are ServerName, Relay and Password.

  • ServerName: The name that will be displayed in the server browser in-game. You can only choose the name from a list of valid words, see the full list here: https://github.com/landfallgames/tabg-word-list. If you would like to use a word that is not on the list, you can create a pull request for new words on GitHub. You can run “VerifyAllowedWords.exe“ (found in the same folder as the “game_settings.txt” file) to verify the server name and description, and make sure all words are allowed.

  • Relay: If you don’t have a public IP or if port forwarding sounds too tricky, it’s recommended to set Relay to “true” (recommended for most users). Everything is then sent through a relay server hosted by Unity and you should be able to play anyway. Remember that using a public IP will always increase the risk of being targeted by any sort of malicious cyber activity.

  • Password: Password to access the server.

4. Once you’ve started a server with Relay turned on, you should receive a code and that should also be displayed in the server browser in-game.
